EDP in Brazil invested a total of R$ 1,150.7 million in Brazil in 2005, a rise of 9.5% over the previous year. Investments were concentrated in generation (60.9%) and distribution (39.9%). The most significant amount was directed toward the construction of the Peixe Angical Plant on the Tocantins River, which is scheduled to begin operation in May of 2006.

In generation, investment fell by 6.1% from 2004 as construction of the new hydroelectric plant drew to a close. Investment was directed toward Energest, which manages generation assets in the states of Espírito Santo and Mato Grosso do Sul, with special focus on the start of expansion works for the hydroelectric plant in Mascarenhas, which is scheduled to place a fourth turbine into operation in 2006.

In distribution, investments came to R$ 448.4 million (an increase of 47.9% over 2004), directed toward, above all, the expansion and improvement of the EDP Bandeirante, EDP Escelsa and Enersul networks. Investment in projects designed to universalize access to electric energy also grew through emphasis on the "Light for All" program.
